Cubic highlights future of Big Data at the ITS America Seattle Symposium

Phil Silver, director of business development for Urban Insights Associates, a subsidiary of Cubic Transportation Systems, was a panellist at the “Data Gathering, Data Usage, Data Sharing” session of the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) Seattle Symposium. The symposium took place in Seattle, Washington from July 16 – 17 with the theme, “Building a Smart, Diverse and Shared Travel Network.”

As a sponsor of the symposium, Cubic’s Urban Insights is a consultancy firm focused on the application of big data tools and data analytic science technologies to uncover insights and solve challenges associated with urbanization, congestion and mobility – which are among the chief issues under the scope of “smart cities.” The goal of smart city planning is to utilize technologies to enhance quality and performance of urban services, to reduce costs and resource consumption and to engage more effectively and actively with citizens. Applying big data analytics to help cities prepare and manage the quality of transportation services is a major focus for transportation thought leaders, including the ITS America Leadership Circle of which Cubic is a member.

“Cubic’s NextCity vision brings together the holistic management of regional mobility and Urban Insights delivers the predictive analytics outcomes to help government and private companies use big data to inform, make decisions, shape policy and affect communities,” said Matt Cole, executive vice president, strategy and business development of Cubic Transportation Systems. “We understand the importance of combining the latest innovations in transportation, technology and actionable information for faster and more reliable methods of travel.”
