Ooredo showcases smart city vision at Rio 2016

Visitors to the 2016 Olympic Games will have an opportunity to learn more about Ooredoo’s ambition to build the smart cities of the future, supported by world-class smart data centres and its ICT systems integration capabilities.

The integrated ICT provider is hosting a booth inside Bayt Qatar, the Qatar Olympic Committee’s hospitality house where it will showcase its smart solutions vision.

Ooredoo is a national sponsor of the Qatar Olympic Committee and visitors to the booth will be able to preview the next-generation immersive media that Qatar intends providing at future sporting events. In addition, they can watch videos and presentations about the nation’s world-class sporting and technology infrastructure.

“We’re very proud to be working with the Qatar Olympic Committee to demonstrate Qatar’s credentials as an advanced destination for global sports events,” said Waleed Al-Sayed, chief executive officer, Ooredoo Qatar

“Ooredoo’s services, systems and solutions are set to deliver a next-generation customer experience for fans and visitors, and the Rio Olympics 2016 provides an ideal platform for us to promote our expertise,” he added.

Representatives from the company are also seeking to build relationships with key stakeholders from around the world during the exhibition.

Ooredoo also announced that it plans to deploy the Ooredoo Supernet to support immersive media at a range of sporting events in the future. According to the company, fans will be able to use their mobile devices to watch live replays from multiple angles, check the latest stats and enjoy a fully-interactive experience – wherever they are in the stadium or even when they are outside or at home.

Alongside next-generation customer services, Ooredoo aims to make Qatar the most secure sports event destination ever, deploying a cyber-security framework that addresses critical infrastructure threats and ensures an incident-free experience.

Major national projects where the company claims to have demonstrated its experience and expertise in connecting world-class ICT infrastructure include Lusail City, Hamad International Airport, Katara, and Souq Waqif.
